The requirement of the shoot was to break through the perception of a typical Red Bull image. We wanted to focus more on the feel of the sport than the advertising of the brand and we wanted the brand to become part of the whole composition – allowing me to pour my attention into trying to achieve creative and natural images of Thomas.
Throughout the shoot we tried to reflect the environment in our images such as the feel of the oldrooms and the history of the brewery. What we had were ballrooms, corridors, terraces, a cold storage cellar for ice boulders and a straw storeroom for the animals of the brewery. These locations were our playground of creativity… most of which were very dark so we had to really work with a lot of artificial light. My goal, and the challenge, was to use the flashes to create a natural daylight look to reflect the mood of the historical rooms … making of and interview! here!
